 QUALITY

Acquired Brain Injury Ireland is focused on maximising the abilities of those whose lives have been changed forever as a result of acquiring a brain injury. We work with people who deserve and need access to the best available support services. Everyone working in the organisation is committed to providing a personal, quality driven service to those we work with every day. We strive to be the best there is for people with and affected by ABI.

Quality measurements are integral to our organisation and include:

  • Individual Rehabilitation Plans, and a written service agreement for people served
  • Regular consultation with families / carers
  • Annual Key Performance Goals
  • Annual Accessibility Plan
  • Regular consultation with funders at national and local level
  • Annual independent auditing of finances
  • Carf Accreditation

Listening to You - uSPEQ

ABI Ireland wants to excel in providing Acquired Brain Injury rehabilitation services to the people who need it, in the way they need it and so that it really makes a difference to them and their families/carers in their everyday lives.

Annually, we undertake a survey of the people in our service to elicit and determine their views on a range of issues affecting the service we offer and the impact on their lives. This survey is managed through an independent third party organisation called uSPEQ. The uSPEQ questionnaire asks respondents to rate their experiences related to access to services, the service process, the way the programmes meet their needs, and their perception of the outcomes they have attained.

uSPEQ is an opportunity for the people in our services to voice their experiences by responding to an anonymous and confidential questionnaire. The respondent data reports that are then collated are meaningful methods for ABI Ireland to hear what is important to the people it serves.

2009 Survey

The 2009 survey was conducted during the month of November 2009. A number of facilitators were appointed to manage the roll-out of the questionnaire and to assist in explaining the process and the questionnaire itself.

The 2009 survey indicates a very high positive response from the people in our service. There were particularly strong responses under the headings of Respect by Staff and Informed Choice, while the responses under the heading of Participation showed a marked increase on the 2008 results. The results of the 2009 survey will be analysed and reviewed with a view to incorporating the learning into our future service plans. View 2009 Summary Survey Report

Carf Accreditation

In 2002, Acquired Brain Injury Ireland became the first service provider in the Republic of Ireland to achieve international recognition from the Commission for Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). Founded in the United States of America, CARF is an independent, non-profit accreditor of organisations which provide services in a range of areas including aging services, behavioural health, medical rehabilitation and community services, to name but a few. The CARF family of organisations currently accredits more than 5,000 providers at more that 18,000 locations in the United States, Canada, Western Europe, South America and the South Pacific. CARF accreditation is an internationally recognised quality mark which signals that the services provided meet or exceed international best practice.

In 2006 and again in 2009 Acquired Brain Injury Ireland achieved the highest level of CARF accreditation in ABI Residential Rehabilitation Services, ABI Long Term Residential Services and ABI Home & Community Rehabilitation Services. CARF Gold Seal of Accreditation

The CARF accreditation is a very clear affirmation of the quality of Acquired Brain Injury Ireland services. It reassures people with ABI and their families that Acquired Brain Injury Ireland is reviewed by an independent and internationally recognised agency and that after rigorous assessment; Acquired Brain Injury Ireland is found to deliver its services to the highest standards of excellence.
