Our Side by Side Day Resource Service, provides those with ABI with a work-ordered day filled with meaningful activities. A holistic model of rehabilitation is followed, which enhances self-esteem, independence, community involvement and personal growth. The Day Service is first and foremost a community. It is a place for people to congregate and to be accepted for who they are and to work together towards the common goal of re-integration into the community. In a welcoming and supportive atmosphere, members are encouraged to develop new relationships and interests, and to build creatively on their strengths and capabilities. Staff encourage and support members to take an active part in planning, running, and evaluating the life of the centre.
Emphasising the importance of self-determination, the Day Service provides resources, support and advocacy to assist members in achieving their personal goals for community living. It is designed to help individuals move away from an environment where treatment is administered to an environment where they can once again reciprocate and contribute to the community, empowering them with responsibility in their own lives. Membership is determined, at least initially, through the referral process of Acquired Brain Injury Ireland.
