 FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICE

Social Work / Family Liaison

Social Worker/Family Liaison provides support to the person with and affected by an ABI on an individual or collective basis. This work is carried out by developing professional relationships with the individual, the family and the wider supports.

This support is usually required when individuals and families/carers are facing a major and often life changing situation that has altered their life forever.

“Viewing a family systematically invites us to begin to understand its members and the dynamics of their relationships in a holistic way rather than the either/or polarisation between the victim/sufferer and the coping/functional members of the group.

Whatever the family type, we approach the family as a unit, as an interacting whole and as a system of interpersonal relationships. Viewed in this way the behaviour and experiences of each family member and the relationships between them affect every other member of the family group and the whole pattern of relationships.” Jacobs 1995
