 ASSISTED LIVING

The first Assisted Living - Residential service was founded in 2000 at Anvers in Dublin and we now 14 Assisted Living residences throughout Ireland. This service essentially provides a ‘home from home’ for people with an ABI. No more than 4 – 6 people live together in a safe environment where they are respected, empowered and supported by staff on a 24/7 basis. Each resident has his or her own bedroom while kitchen, living and dining facilities are shared to promote social interaction and to help develop the appropriate behaviours essential in community living.

Assisted Living provides individualised, community-based support services designed to maximise the quality of life of each person living with ABI while fostering autonomy, personal growth and development. The emphasis of our assisted living model is based on individual need. Over time, the individual learns to maximise their abilities and their dependence on support from Acquired Brain Injury Ireland staff is reduced. This supports and promotes independence for the individual.

Acquired Brain Injury Ireland Assisted Living residences are conveniently located with access to local shops, transport and amenities. We also try to ensure easy access for the families of those living in our residences.

Each person living in an ABI Ireland residence is provided with a service level agreement. This written document, drawn up with the resident and their next of kin or designated carer, ensures that when moving in to their new home the resident understands the process involved and to ensure consistency in all information shared. The agreement includes a detailed risk assessment, outlines the challenges particular to the individual and the rehabilitation programme developed in response to their needs as well as the relevant policies and procedures of Acquired Brain Injury Ireland which are necessary for a caring, safe environment.
