In March ABI Ireland hosted our 5th national fundraising campaign Bake for Brain Injury. Ireland’s favourite impressionist Mario Rosenstock rolled up his sleeves to launch the annual fundraising campaign which took place on Brain Awareness Week from March 9th-15th
Following a great fundraising week ABI Ireland would like to thank everyone who lent their support to Bake for Brain Injury. The money raised will go directly to maintaining and developing vital community based neuro-rehabilitation services throughout Ireland. Your individual support allows us make a difference in the life of someone living with a brain injury; helping them rebuild the life they once knew.
Bake for Brain Injury is a national initiative driven and supported locally by you our supporters, our creative ABI Ireland staff teams, the people they support and their communities. Together through hard work and determination a great result was achieved and a successful week of bake events we held throughout the country.
ABI Ireland survivor and Ambassador Niamh Cahill told her story and experience of living with a brain injury to Pat Kenny on his Newstalk radio show during Brain Awareness Week to highlight the need for sufficient brain injury services. Niamh was joined by Dr Mark Delargy from the National Rehabilitation Hospital and they did an amazing feature piece. Speaking about her experience Niamh said “The difficulty with brain injury is that it is a hidden disability. Many people struggle in silence and with great difficulty as they don’t understand what is happening and why. I was one of these people. Following my brain injury my speech, organizational skills and confidence were greatly affected. My ability to deal with simple situations was decreased. At times I felt very lost and confused but ABI Ireland offered me support at a very scary and transitional time in my life. I had someone available to support me through every step and that was very important to me at the time”.

The support of our campaign partners must also be commended, with the Irish Mirror, Newstalk 106-108 & public figures such as Mario Rosenstock all helping ABI Ireland make a positive impact where it is needed most. Raising funds through community initiatives such as Bake for Brain Injury has become a crucial part of ABI Irelands fundraising strategy during these difficult financial times. Without this support many our services would simply not exist.
