Fight For Our Lives!

For too many people in Ireland, surviving a brain injury isn’t where the fight ends, it’s where it begins.

Anyone who has survived the trauma of a brain injury or stroke should be able to get the support they need to rebuild their shattered lives, no matter where they live.

But years of underinvestment in community rehabilitation services and a failure to implement national policy have left thousands of survivors and families feeling lost and abandoned on their recovery journey.

We are calling on all candidates in this year’s General Election to uphold the human rights of brain injury survivors under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

This year, we are asking election candidates to uphold the human rights of brain injury survivors under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and give them the chance to live life to its full potential.

We need candidates to fight for the lives of brain injury survivors by:

1

Raising awareness of the rehabilitation needs of people with a brain injury and their families in the Dáil

2

Advocating to prioritise funding for long term rehabilitation services for people with brain injury, to address the massive gaps and postcode lottery for services

3

Making Acquired Brain Injury Ireland financially sustainable, so that we can continue to deliver in the community

A brain injury can happen to anyone at any age. Overnight, a person’s life is turned upside down. Their family’s lives are changed forever.

It could happen to your brother, your mother, your best friend, or to you.

We are indebted to many members of the brain injury community in Ireland who have shared their experiences with us, to raise awareness about the vital importance of rehabilitation.

With the right supports at the right time, survivors of brain injury can rebuild their lives.

I believe in my heart that had she not had that early intervention, I would not be looking at a child who has just done her leaving cert. I just know it.
