Music Therapy with Ciana McGarrigle
Do you listen to music when you go walking or running? Do you look forward to a bit of a sing song when the opportunity presents itself?
Music is a language that we all connect with in some way, shape or form. It is the one thing that connects us all, no matter what our age or stage in life.
This programme is designed for people who care for a loved one with an acquired brain injury. In this programme you will be given the opportunity to explore the challenges you face. You will be provided with the opportunity to discuss your situation and the adjustments you may have made to create a ‘new normal’ for you and your loved one.
Ciana McGarrigle uses various methods including music and art, songwriting, song discussion and lyric analysis, body scanning, relaxation and the creation of personalised soundtracks. But the important thing is that this programme is for, lead and directed by those attending.
Being part of a programme likes this provides you with the opportunity to access a creative medium where you can relieve the stress and strain you feel, have a place to voice your feelings, feel validated and heard, improve your mood and socialise with others outside of your own unit who share a similar experience.
