Our 2025 Christmas Appeal Has Launched

This year, we’re shining a light on stroke and the challenges survivors face after leaving hospital.

Stroke is the third leading cause of death in Ireland and the number one cause of brain injury in our services. Every year, more than 7,500 people in Ireland survive a stroke, and around 5,000 of these individuals are left with an acquired brain injury that can change everything about daily life. Too many survivors and their families are left without the support they need to adapt and recover.

By focusing this appeal on stroke, we aim to raise awareness of the challenges survivors face and the vital difference your support can make. With specialist rehabilitation, community programmes, and peer support, people living with acquired brain injuries can rebuild their lives, regain independence, and find hope for the future.

I didn’t know anything about Acquired Brain Injury Ireland before my stroke. Now, I can’t imagine recovery without their support.

In 2022, Lynda suffered a sudden stroke that left her paralysed and unable to see or speak properly. After leaving hospital, she faced overwhelming challenges — difficulties that are all too common for stroke survivors. Without the right support, recovery can feel impossible.

With the help of Acquired Brain Injury Ireland, Lynda received Home & Community Rehabilitation and peer support that helped her adapt to life after stroke. She gradually regained her independence, rebuilt her confidence, and reclaimed the everyday joys she once feared were lost. Today, she is thriving and inspiring others on their own recovery journeys.

Every year, thousands of people in Ireland will have strokes. Your donation makes sure families like mine aren’t left alone.

This Christmas, you can help bring that same support to more families across Ireland.

Your donation helps provide expert rehabilitation to restore independence, compassionate support to ease the burden on families, and therapeutic programmes that rebuild confidence and hope.

With your support, we can reach more survivors and families who are waiting for help, giving them the chance to rebuild their lives with dignity, strength, and hope.

Give the gift of hope this Christmas
