What is Digital Assistive Technology?

Digital Assistive Technology (DAT) refers to a broad range of electronic tools that can be used to increase independence. Examples include

• Screen readers for people with low vision or difficulty reading
• Communication apps on an iPad to help those with difficulty speaking or understanding
• Voice activated digital assistants such as Alexa, sending reminders to someone with difficulty remembering
• A voice activated Smart Plug to switch on and off a device
