Brain injury survivors collaborate on an all-Island visual art project as part of Creative Brain Week

Together with survivors of brain injury and the team at Brain Injury Matters NI, and led by artist Rachel Fitzpatrick, Acquired Brain Injury Ireland is delighted to collaborate on an exciting new art installation as part of this year’s Creative Brain Week, taking place at Trinity College Dublin from 9 – 13 June.

Re-Framing is a visual representation of a cyclical journey of change and transformation after acquired brain injury.

Previous versions of Re-Framing have been developed in Belfast and Philadelphia, but this latest edition will be the first all-Island creative response to brain injury.

During a series of workshops held in Northern Ireland with members of Brain Injury Matters NI, and in Dublin with members of the Acquired Brain Injury Ireland Clubhouse, Dun Laoghaire, Rachel and participants worked to develop a way to create origami ‘brains’.

Hundreds of ‘brains’ were created and collected during each workshop. Together, they will be installed in a striking visual presentation at Trinity College Dublin as part of Creative Brain Week. It will consist of more than 3,000 pieces of paper shapes, all formed by people with acquired brain injury.

During the week, participants, other brain injury survivors and members of the public are invited to visit Trinity College to further contribute to the art installation. They will be facilitated by Rachel, and there will be opportunities to share lived experiences of acquired brain injury together in small groups.

The installation will be open to the public and free of charge to visit, without booking.
