This hike, supported by the team at Mecca, is one in an impressive series of 50 being taken on by our staff and supporters, Fiona Doyle and Kalinda Healy. Their ’50 hikes before 50 challenge’ will see them hiking one trail per month across the country, with the aim to complete 50 before their 50th birthdays, all the while raising much needed funds for Acquired Brain Injury Ireland. Sean Connolly from Mecca Gym is excited for the gym to take on the hike and support a worthy cause:

We’re so excited for this opportunity to get out and about on the beautiful Croghan Trail with our friends at Acquired Brain Injury Ireland, Fiona and Kalinda. We’re delighted to support them by organising this local hike, and hopefully welcoming lots of walkers, hikers and supporters of all ages and abilities.

In Ireland, there are approximately 19,000 new brain injuries every single year – that’s 52 brain injuries every day – as the result of stroke, falls, assaults, road traffic accidents and infections, among other causes. In a moment, their lives and the lives of their families are turned upside down forever. We work with survivors of brain injury in their homes and local communities, providing services to help them rehabilitate, adapt and live the most independent life possible. Each year, our organisation supports around 1,100 people, but so many more need our help. Fundraisers like this one are incredibly important to help grow the number and reach of our services, so that more brain injury survivors can live life to its full potential.
